Vandiver Stump Removal
A family company, proudly serving the Gulf Coast.
Vandiver Stump Removal is family owned business based on hard work and honesty. We offer stump grinding at affordable prices. We care about your property, and are driven by customer satisfaction.
Vandiver Stump Removal was formed in October of 2020 following the landfall of Hurricane Sally in Gulf Shores, Alabama. Gulf Shores is our family’s home and there was much work to be done to restore our communities. After being laid off from a career in the aerospace industry due to the Covid-19 pandemic, Daniel Vandiver, the owner and operator of Vandiver Stump Removal, was in need of a new way to provide for his family. Thankfully the needs of our gulf coast communities and the need of a new and exciting career aligned to form a win-win situation. The joy of taking the time to have conversations with customers and being able to help them accomplish their goals for their property is what makes this line of work so rewarding.
We look forward to meeting you and being part of your projects.

Frequently Asked Questions
You've Got Questions, We've Got Answers.
Understandably, this is our most frequently asked question. The fact is the stumps are not uniform. Stumps vary in size and therefore we feel that flat rate or per stump pricing is an inefficient way of pricing work. Instead, I typically price work based on the diameter of the stump as measured at ground level. I have found this to keep pricing directly proportionate to the amount of work to be performed. At times there may be special circumstances involved in removing a stump that can affect pricing and all of that will be discussed during the quote process.
No. Whether you have just a few small stumps that are a trip hazard or dozens of large stumps, we want to be the company you can rely on to get the job done at a fair price for the work to be performed.
Typically, No. On average 95% of customers do not want the shavings from the stump grinding process removed. However, in certain circumstances this can be arranged. For example, if a large volume of wood shavings are expected, a roll-off dumpster rental can be scheduled for the project. If having the wood shavings removed is a priority for you, just ask and we will find a solution. I will either neatly pile up the remaining shavings so that they can be scooped up later or spread them out evenly so that they can naturally decompose
These types of stumps are more challenging than a typical stump but I have the machinery to tackle most uprooted stumps. The best way to determine if grinding is the right option for your stump is to contact us for a free quote where we can discuss the situation.
We generally grind stumps to a minimum of 6” below the grade of the surrounding area. Many variables can come into play regarding depth of cut which can be discussed during the quote process. In some situations a customer may request to grind the stump more shallow to ensure that underground irrigation lines or utilities are not disturbed. In other cases a very deep cut is requested so that a new tree can be planted in the same place. We are happy to accommodate either situation.
More than likely, Yes. Our stump grinder can fit through a 36” gate. As long as there is sufficient room to maneuver, accessing tight areas should not be a problem.
I always do the very best I can to minimize damage to the areas surrounding a stump. I take great care to plan how we traverse your property with our machinery. I invested in Vermeer stump cutters which drive on tracks that reduce ground pressure to 4 psi or less. In most situations you can barely tell I was there, aside from the pile of wood chips. I treat every property as if it were my own and I want the finished product to be something we are both proud of.
Stump Grinding is an inherently messy business. However, I do take steps to minimize the mess created. In sensitive areas, I use barriers to contain flying debris to the immediate area. This keeps the job safe, protects buildings and windows, and makes cleanup easier. I always make sure to blow off any shavings on driveways or sidewalks.
Yes. I carry all required insurance and maintain business licenses for the cities I work in. Copies of these documents are available upon request.
Customer satisfaction is something I take very personally. I believe communication is key in every successful business and I will gladly answer any questions you may have. I stand behind my work 100%. It is extremely rare that I have to return to a completed jobsite to touch up the job but if that is what is needed then I will gladly do that, free of charge, with a sense of urgency.
Typically, No. Due to insurance restrictions as well as equipment restrictions, I do not usually cut down trees. However, I do have the ability to cut shrubs/hedges and small trees if I feel that there is no danger to myself or your property.
